The measurement effect is an interesting theory and I think it probably does have an effect on behavior to an extent. I do think, however, that there is a bit of a difference between getting weighed in before and after at Weight Watchers and the mpg device on hybrids because the latter affects your behavior in real time. You adapt your behavior based on the results you see instantly and learn to alter your behavior based on the instantaneous feedback.

I'm interested in this WRT examinations themselves and how the expectation of a future exam might alter behaviour.

for example with home educated children. if the state adds a requirement for the child to sit an SAT and a certain score is required to be allowed to continue to home educate then this would effect the way they are likely to behave.

even if the requirement to attain a particular score were removed its still likely that behaviour changes.

this may not be a good thing if the child is then either forced or encouraged to engage in educational activity that is aimed at scoring highly on the SAT rather than achieve the child's own intrinsically set goals.

So patronizing the new green car technology is a good idea all around, for families who purchase their own cars as well as for people who opt to go for a hybrid car rental when they need to travel long distances in faraway places.
